Welcome to Financial Algebra!
Hello my name is Jessica Ortega. I have been teaching with Rio Rancho Public Schools for 16 years. I currently teach Financial Algebra and serve as the Math Instructional Leader for V. Sue Cleveland High.
The following information is a brief description of the Financial Algebra course.
RRPS is excited to offer Financial Algebra as a dual enrollment course through the high school and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM). Financial Algebra combined with Making Money Work (FIN1010) will introduce students to financial terminology and concepts that teach the student how to manage money in the real world. This course offers students the opportunity to receive one high school math credit, one high school elective credit and three college credits.
Financial Algebra combined with Making Money Work is a dual credit course. Benefits of a dual credit online course include:
• Meet the RRPS graduation requirement to complete at least one Dual Credit, Distance Learning, Honors or Advanced Placement course for high school graduation
• Save money and time on travel because the course is held at the high school during regular class hours.
• Get a head start on earning college credit free of charge
The curriculum includes planning for bad times and budgeting money, understanding credit and credit history, determining and planning a career path, and budgeting for college and financial aid. Also included are introduction to banking services, understanding payroll and income taxes, and cost analysis of automobile and consumer loans.
Please see the class syllabus for more information.
