There’s nothing quite like a child’s face during the holidays, and nowhere is that more true than at Shining Stars Preschool, Rio Rancho’s program for three and four year old students.
One of Shining Stars’ most cherished traditions is the annual Polar Express, a nod to the children’s holiday story. Each young student receives a “Golden Ticket” allowing them to board the “Polar Express” for a train trip around their school. At the end, a very special visit awaits with the big guy himself, Santa Claus – who takes a day off from the North Pole to personally greet each child.
Shining Stars students include both typically-developing students chosen by lottery, and students with developmental or other disabilities who qualify through a screening process. The school accepts applications for its annual lottery in early April each year, and maintains a waiting list for students who do not qualify through the lottery.
