5 Lifestyle Tips to Lower High Blood Pressure
(1) The Change: Lose Weight
The Payoff: You'll lower your systolic blood pressure (the first number in your blood pressure) by
5 - 20 points for every 20 pounds you lose. In fact, if you're overweight, losing as little
as 10 pounds can help lower blood pressure. The weight loss goal is to get your body
mass index (BMI) between 18.5 - 24.9.

(2) The Change: Follow the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet
The Payoff: This eating plan is high in fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy. Stick to it and watch your
systolic blood pressure drop 8 -14 points.

(3) The Change: Cut back on Sodium
The Payoff: Limiting sodium to 2,400 milligrams per day can lower your number 2 - 8 points

(4) The Change: Exercise
The Payoff: Do 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week and cut your blood pressure
4 - 5 points.

(5) The Change: Drink less alcohol
The Payoff: Bring down your systolic blood pressure 2 - 4 points when you limit yourself to one
alcoholic drink a day ( for women) and two drinks (for men).
One drink is 12 oz of beer, 5 oz of wine, or 1.5 oz of 80-proof liquor

December and January are Drug Awareness Months

December and January are Drug Awareness months.

Bringing any type of medications to school is prohibited and will not be tolerated during ANY month. This includes prescription drugs or any over the counter drugs that fall under the category such as Benadryl, Tylenol, or cold medicines. Sharing medications with your friends or classmates is also prohibited and against school policy which can result in severe consequences. If you must take medications during the day, all medications must be checked in with the school nurse and a form must be signed by your parent. Distribution of the medication will take place in the nurse’s office under her supervision. This is imperative for everyone’s safety.

We are "A Latex Aware Campus"

Parents and Students: Please be considerate of those students/staff who may be allergic to Latex, by not bringing Latex balloons to school.
