Four students at Rio Rancho High School pose for a disco event in honor of Black History Month

Black History Month is being celebrated at Cleveland and Rio Rancho high schools. To kick things off, New Mexico Public Education Department officials shared history and current programs with students during a Google Meet event on February 4 coordinated by Jermaine Washington, sponsor of the CHS Black Student Union. He also set up a virtual college presentation about Oklahoma’s Langston University. Under the guidance of Livia Jones, sponsor of the RRHS Black Student Union, a spirit week that includes lunchtime disco and hip hop dance parties, trivia and historical tidbits on the announcements, and an open microphone session are taking place this week.
